Wondem Foundation has set itself the goal of tackling the following problems in a structured and project-based manner: insufficient school facilities for children in Mezezo and Kobastil, insufficient clean drinking water, no proper sanitary facilities and poor accessibility of Mezezo and Kobastil due to poor infrastructure. Since 2010, Wondem Foundation has carried out 21 projects in and around Mezezo and Kobastil:

In Mezezo:
  1. the construction of the school library for secondary school students with large study rooms (completed September 2012)
  2. the provision of water supply at the school (completed February 2013)
  3. facilities to keep girls in school longer and girls’ clubs in the 2012-2013 school year
  4. the construction of two laboratory rooms for physics and chemistry (completed February 2013)
  5. the construction of a health centre with maternity clinic (completed October 2014)
  6. empowerment projects, sheep and chickens for 50 single mothers in Mezezo to generate their own income (so that they can send their children to school)
  7. the provision of sheep to carers of children to generate their own income (so that they can send their children to school)
  8. the construction of two public toilet buildings with shower rooms in Mezezo (completed 2017)
  9. the construction of the school library for the primary school of Mezezo with large study rooms (completed April 2017)
  10. the construction of maternity accommodation for the health centre in Mezezo (completed March 2021)
  11. the construction of bakeries and facilities for people with disabilities in Mezezo and Kobastil (completed September 2021)
  12. the construction of 4 classrooms for the primary school in Mezezo (completed November 2021)
  13. supporting victims of the civil war in Mezezo (started in 2022)
In Kobastil:
  1. the construction of the school library for the primary school of Kobastil with large study rooms (completed April 2017)
  2. providing water supply at the primary school of Kobastil (completed April 2017)
  3. the construction of a model school garden with its own vegetables for the primary school of Kobastil (completed 2018)
  4. sustainable maintenance of the 4 water sources and 2 wells in Kobastil (completed 2018)
  5. education projects for girls and vulnerable pupils in Mezezo and Kobastil (started in 2020)
  6. the construction of bakeries and institutions for people with disabilities and orphans in Kobastil (completed September 2021)
  7. supporting victims of the civil war in Kobastil (completed January 2023)
In Ambela:
  1. the construction of a library for the secondary school of Ambela (completed February 2023)
Projects for 2023 to 2024

In the coming years, the above projects will be continued and secured by the municipalities of Mezezo and Kobastil, supported by the steering committee, the advisors of the JECCDO foundation, prof. Getnet Tadele of Addis Ababa University and Mr. and Mrs. Zerfu of the Wondem Foundation.

The focus is on the empowerment of pupils, girls, single mothers and other vulnerable groups. The focus is also on ensuring high-quality well-equipped schools and ensuring that clean and safe drinking water is permanently available.

In addition to securing existing projects, 2 new projects will also be started:

  1. the construction of 10 water wells in 8 different villages near Kobastil
  2. the construction of 4 new classrooms for the primary school in Kobastil
